     JULIE FORBES

My name is Julie Forbes.   I started doing body for life in 2008.   I really liked the transformation and did it again but didn't really get any more results, so I decided I needed more of a challenge.   I decided I wanted to compete in a figure competition.   I had wanted to do this for about 10 years but started a business and had children, left not much time for me and made my life very busy.    At the beginning of 2009, I called Kaye and had a chat to her and made the first of many appointments to start on my journey.

At 20 weeks out, I had a lot of work to do, but really enjoyed the discipline of the training and food.   And - couldn't believe the transformation!   I competed at the CNI's on 25th September 2009 and placed 2nd.   WOW - was that cool - off to the Nationals in October in Auckland.   Loads of fun!   I competed again in 2010 and 2011 and this year and taking a year off competing to train hard and grow!   Am looking forward to competing again in 2013 with Kaye and her team - couldn't have done it without the help.

I currently catch up with Kaye on a regular basis for personal training and technique sessions which are really beneficial for motivation and improvement.

Julie.

"I've known Kaye for less than a year, and in this time I have gained body mass, lost body fat and together we have got my nutrition sorted as I do shift work and its never easy fitting meals in thru out the day, let alone the night shifts. Kaye is very approachable and is always ready to give the right advise.
Thanks again Kaye."

Donna Randell  Donna  - Open Figure Competitor

I have been married to Nigel for 18 years and have 2 boys aged 12 and 14. We both own and run our business in Dargaville selling Suzuki Motorcycles, which we have been doing for the last 11 years.

As a family we are all very interested in sport! Our sons Regan and Cameron both play for North Force Soccer team in Whangarei. This keeps me busy travelling to Whangarei and then Auckland for games and trainings. My days start at 5.15am every day so I can fit everything in i.e training, kids, work etc.

I have been competing in the figure bodybuilding class since 2002. I first started competing in NABBA and then changed to NZFBB in 2005, I’ve been there since. I have a list below of my achievements since my first completion. Since being in the open figure class I have always placed 3rd in the NZ Nationals and would love to better that one day in the future. This year my goal is to go in looking better than I did in 2007 and if I place then that’s a bonus, there are some great figure competitors coming up through the ranks!!! The last 2 National competitions I have done I have gained something. First was being accepted for sponsorship with balance and then the next year being able to obtain Kaye as my trainer.

Both Nigel and I have been training at home for the last 5 years so having Kaye to help me and motivate me with new and interesting training programmes every 8 weeks has been just fantastic! I have made more gains with her training concepts than with my own. I tended to leave out the exercises that work the best as they hurt lol.

DonnaThis year is the first time that Kaye and I have worked together leading up to a competition and we have done it painlessly over the internet. I keep Kaye up to date with progress photo’s and fat test results every 2-3 weeks to make sure I’m on target. She has been very supportive when I have needed to ring her for a chat to keep my spirits up and motivate me to keep working hard!!!!! (thanks Kaye)

Ellie Parr (First time Competitor - Senior Figure)

I had seen and spoken to other in the sport but had very limited knowledge of what the expectations and regime would be.  I had been a gym member for a number of years, but my training consisted of general classes five or so times a week.  I was going through the motions of keeping fit but with no real fitness ambition of body shape goals.

To take on this challenge was a daunting proposition.  I had no idea where to start.   Enter Kaye O'Neill ........  I sat in Kaye's office for the first time, not really knowing what was in store for me.

After that initial meeting, I still had some serious doubts as to whether I would see this challenge through to the end, but with my first weight training programme and food plan in hand, I was off to conquer this quest!   I quickly developed a real trust and confidence in Kaye and looked forward to our regular sessions.  In fact, these sessions were invaluable and kept me motivated, particularly during the more challenging times.

I was extremely proud that my achievements were acknowledged with a 2nd placing at the CNI Regionals in September, which then qualified me to compete at the Nationals in Auckland a fortnight later.  The journey has been an awesome, life changing experience for me.  Not only have I acheived a stronger, leaner body, but the healthy food plans have left me feeling great.   If I can do this, others can too.   I strongly encourage everyone to take the time and make an appointment with Kaye NOW!

Jason Boyce - Novice Men 80-90kgs

It was 21/2 years ago when I was first introduced to Kaye for a weight loss programme.  At that time I was weighing about 100kgs and my weigth wasn't moving, especially after already losing 18kgs.  With Kaye kicking my butt once a week and her eating plan, the weight started to come off again.

After going to the 2008 CNI Bodybuilding Champs that Kaye organises with her partner Darrel, I got inspired to do a bodybuilding competition.   Sticking to the strick food plan and training regime that kaye provided me with, I competed in the 2009 CNI's weighing in at 83.4kgs.  I placed 3rd in the Novice Men 80-90kg class.

So, I say thank you Kaye for showing me the way and say to anyone else "it can be done".

Frances Robinson - Masters Women Physique Competitor

I met Kaye 15 years ago in Hamilton and with her help I won the Novice Women u5kg class at the CNI's.  Two years later I placed 2nd in the Open Women 052kg class and then took a break to have my son.  I tried several times over the next 13 years to get back into competition but the commitment and discipline are much tougher when you are a single mum - let alone being older!

Then in 2009, at the age of 52 I sought Kaye out and asked if she could help me get back into it.   I had since moved to Taranaki and Kaye to Tauranga but the distance was not an issue because with Kaye's tried and true help I knew I'd succeed again.  I looked forward to my trips to the BOP every 6-8 weeks for a personal consult.  They were like mini competitions to prepare for - breaking down the bigger task into smaller, more achievable goals.   I loved reporting to Kaye and showing her what I'd achieved, then returning home with even more vigour and enthusiasm after becoming re-focused and re-fuelled by Kaye's wise words.   Emails, texts and phonecalls were also very useful, especially considering the distance.

The new training regimes Kaye gave me every 8 weeks kept things interesting.  I witnessed strength gains followed by muscle growth.   Nutritionwise, Kaye pays meticulous attention to detail.   She knows what works - her own body is testament to that, so to me, her nutrition advice is gospel.   When Kaye saw I needed help outside her area of expertise, she referred me to the appropraite profession, eg my GP to discuss long term medications I'd been on and a naturopath to discuss using natural remedies.  That was life-changing for me and I continue to see the natuopath.

Kaye's passion for bodybuilding is clearly evident - she has first hand experience as a competitor, judge, executive committee member, consultant, posing tutor, competition organiser and guest poser.  I've been amazed atFrances the level of dedication she gives to clients, particularly at our group posing practices.   Some of us are hard to get through to but Kaye perserveres with us, often giving us the mental strengtFrancesh we need.

September arrived and after being elated at winning my class and the overalls at the CNI's, I felt like stopping there while the going was good.  However Kaye encouraged me to do two more competitions and I am glad I did, cos I got first place three times in a row.  2009 was my new starting point and now I can't wait to get back into training with Kaye in 2010.   Making new plans, setting new goals and rising to whatever challange crops up along the way.

2009 achievement: NZFBB CNI's - 1st Masters Women 045yrs and Overall Womens Physique Champion; NABBA Wellington Champs  - 1st Senior Women O45yrs and Overall Womens Physique Champion; NABBA Nationals - 1st Senior Women O45yrs.

This is not just about building muscle  - its about building mental strength and stamina too!

Kaye Perry  - Figure Competitor

I firkayest started at the gym in 1998 mainly to put on a bit of size (I was very small).  After about 5 years of light weight training one of the instructors said "You should enter a bodybuilding competition".  I had never even seen a show, let alone considered entering one.  I thought you had to be big and muscled - I was not aware of the Figure section.  I did my first show in March 2003 and 3 more after that before moving from Auckland to Katikati. Kaye P

It was while working as a fitness instructor at the local Katikati gym I was told about Kaye O'Neill, a personal trainer in Tauranga.   I rang Kaye to make an appointment.  Our first meeting was 13 weeks out from the Central North Island Champs in Hamilton, 2005.   From that meeting with Kaye the plan was to work on my muscle tone and growth.   The food plans and weight training programs designed by Kaye worked well and my weekly PT sessions with her and Sunday posing practices greatly improved my confidence.  I placed 1st in the over 35yrs Figure and then won the Figure Overall title (to this day I am not sure who was the proudest myself or Kaye).  I then placed 2nd at the Nationals 3 weeks later.

Since that time I have trained with Kaye on a regular basis and taken out a further 2 National Figure Over 45yrs titles.   Kayes desire to help me achieve my goal is awesome and her vast knowledge of the sport of bodybuilding and genuine desire to pass this knowledge onto her clients is a tribute to her being a true ambassador to the sport.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

FAQ, MYTHS AND STATEMENTS

One of the things I hear most is:

"I would like to do a competition but don't think I could stick to the diet."
The diet is probably the most difficult part. It is not necessarily the limited calories but rather the limited choice of food. Anyone can do it - it just depends on how much they want it. Given the right advice, it is not the diet that fails, but rather the person performing it.

Seek help from a trainer/nutritional consultant who has a few years experience in the sport of bodybuilding and figure competitions. Seek the help from those who have been successfully taking clients through to bodybuilding contests.

"Do I need to be in the gym 6 days a week?"
Your training programme should be designed to incorporate your strengths/weaknesses; the amount of muscle you currently carry; the amount of body fat you have to lose.

Programmes can be designed between 4 and 6 days a week depending on what time you have available and cardio sessions don't have to be done at the gym.

But remember - the contest is about "muscle" whether it be bulk or tone!

"Do you think I have the shape/ enough muscle?"
In every sport you will have people who want to "win" and others who want to "participate". If you want to "win" this question is very important. The contest rules and guidelines of the NZFBB outline what the judges are expecting to see when competitors step on stage.

If you are unsure on whether you have what it takes genetically and physically, seek the advice of a judge, if possible, or someone with a few years experience in the sport of bodybuilding and figure competitions.

I want to stand on the stage at 90kgs!
Great - as long as at 90kgs you are in the condition (ie muscular and ripped!).

I don't want to get big muscles ! (obviously a statement from females)
Not going to happen unless you train really hard for a really long time and then you still might not get big muscles but rather a nicely toned body!
