CHECK YOUR GOALS - ARE THEY SOUND!
Set Your Mind
We are often told that you can achieve anything and everything you set your mind to. Why, then do we often find out we actually can’t achieve anything and everything we set our mind to.
Check your goals – are they sound – do you believe in them
Goals are relevant to the individual – unrealistic goals are likely to fail, only because they are… unrealistic. If your goal is to lose weight then a 12 week challenge and similar programmes readily available on line and at your gym is your best bet. As with any great goal setting advice - Weight Loss Challenges will have a start and an end point and this is a very SMART – (Specific, measureable, attainable, relevant and time based.)
However, if you want to lose weight and keep it off, then maybe the goal is not another dieting app, 12 week challenge, keto, fasting or another trending diet plan. Your goal starts with changing your mindset about weight loss and the experiences you have had with it.
Nothing is more relevant to this statement then dieting in your 50’s. Menopausal weight gain is stressing us out, trying to manage your calories, create edible dishes that everyone enjoys, having to remove things we love to eat and drink for a period of time, strict exercise regimes – all to reach that specific goal is all well and good, until it isn’t. We often become upset and stressed out about things, not because they are innately stressful, but because it does not match with what we expected. “I thought I would stick to it this time! Or more relevant for 50 year olds – “I used to be able to get away with just tidying up my diet, now nothing seems to work”
Most of us struggle to change our beliefs and instead we may try and adjust any new information to fit into our current beliefs. To change your mind set you will first need to set your mind in another direction and be ready to challenge your beliefs. This is the first step in permanent change.
